Vulnerability of Railcars to Damage Caused by the Use of Explosives
Presented by Ruben Peña,
Government/Security and Latin America Projects, Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI)
The session content features a research project TSA's Office of Security Technologies conducted with
Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI) and Arup North America Ltd (ARUP).
The main goals of the ongoing research are to develop tools to evaluate the performance existing
railcar structures, develop potential mitigation measures for current railcars, and investigate future
advanced designs under blast conditions.
Learning objectives for "Vulnerability of Railcars to Damage Caused by the Use of Explosives" include:
- Review recent methods to quantify railcar and infrastructure vulnerabilities to explosives
- Discuss keys to developing effective blast mitigation measures for current railcars
- Analyze data from TTCI blast risk assessments on light rail, commuter and transit railcar
- Learn about the role of CFD modeling of blast events
This is just one of the many important issues that will be addressed at Secure Rail. The complete agenda
will be available in early November.
