Winter preparation is critical—freezing temperatures can wreak havoc on water systems if left unprotected. When water freezes in a diesel-electric locomotive's cooling system or a passenger rail car's potable water line, it can cause burst pipes, equipment damage, and expensive downtime. Stay ahead of the cold and avoid costly repairs with our proven winterizing solutions.
For over 40 years, ThermOmegaTech® has been the leader in designing and manufacturing thermostatic valves and actuators that protect critical rail systems from freeze damage. Since introducing our original GURU® Plug in 1983, we have set the industry standard and are now the North American Market Leader in Railroad Freeze Protection.

The GURU® DL2.1 Plug protects diesel locomotives when the engine is turned off by continuously monitoring the water temperature in the cooling system. When the temperature approaches freezing, the self-actuating valve "snaps open" to rapidly drain the system, preventing damage. Resetting the GURU® Plug is easy—reheat the cartridge and reinsert it into the hex nut.
For passenger cars, the GURU PC® valve protects water systems that supply toilets and galleys when the car heat is turned off during a layover or locomotive switch. This valve responds to ambient temperatures, automatically modulating open to drain the water tanks if the external temperature drops to the valve's set point. Once power and heat are restored to the rail car, the valve closes, allowing the tanks to be refilled before the car returns to service.
ThermOmegaTech® valves are entirely mechanical and require no electricity, making them ideal for any situation, even during power outages.
