Recognizing the Mentors Shaping the
Next Generation of Railroaders

Behind every successful rail professional is a mentor who guided them, shared their expertise, and inspired them to grow. Now, for the first time ever, Progressive Railroading is recognizing those mentors through the brand new Rail Mentor Awards.

Do you know a colleague or industry peer whose guidance is making a meaningful impact on the careers of the next generation of rail professionals? If so, nominate them for the 2026 Rail Mentor Awards! A rail mentor is someone who participates in an established mentorship program or initiative through their employer or professional association, providing ongoing guidance, support, and advice that helps mentees grow.

Nominating is simple and free — just share their story and the career-shaping guidance they provided.  

Celebrating Mentors

Honorees will be featured in Progressive Railroading’s Daily News in late April, and winners will also be highlighted in the magazine’s June print edition with a profile and headshot. This recognition offers a unique opportunity to showcase their contributions to the rail industry and inspire others. 

Who Can Be Nominated?

• Employees of Class I, short line, and passenger railroads 
• Professionals from rail industry suppliers and service providers 
• Members of rail-focused professional associations 

How to Nominate

• Nominations must be submitted by the nominee’s employer or professional association
• Up to three nominations per organization
• Submit a brief description (up to 500 words) of the mentor’s
