Progressive Railroading — January Issue Preview
Cover Story: LA Metro and the 2028 Olympics
The 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles are two years away, but the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) has been prepping for years for the games’ impact on the region’s mass transportation network.
Introduced in 2017, LA Metro’s Twenty-Eight by 2028 program outlines 28 major infrastructure projects to be completed prior to 2028. This includes billions of dollars worth of new light-rail and subway lines, bus rapid transit and express lanes to reduce congestion when thousands of visitors arrive for the Olympic games.
For a program update, Associate Editor Bridget Dean talks with LA Metro officials about projects completed to date and those still to come, as well as how the program will improve transportation across the region, post-Olympics. Dean also will talk with officials about funding gaps and other challenges, including contending with criticism about the program’s cost.
