Cover story: CPKC charts ‘Room to Grow’ industrial development blueprint

In April, Canadian Pacific Kansas City certified the first nine properties under its Site Ready Program, which is part of the Class I’s “Room to Grow” industrial development strategy.

The program targets underutilized land that can become prime industrial sites ready for development. The sites are developed and certified in collaboration with third-party global engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell.

Room to Grow is an effort to develop more than 6,000 acres in Canada, the United States and Mexico to help support customers via new industrial development solutions. Canadian Pacific previously implemented a Room to Grow strategy to optimize excess land across its network, but now with an expanded reach as CPKC, the Class I is trying to build on that objective to capitalize on land located in high traffic-volume locations.

To learn more about the Site Ready Program and Room to Grow strategy — and the benefits they are generating for the railroad — Managing Editor Jeff Stagl checks in with CPKC SVP of Sales and Marketing Cody Bullard. Executives at a few shippers involved in Site Ready also share how the program is benefitting their companies.
