Progressive Railroading October 2019 Editorial Lineup

Cover Story:

CSX's Transformative Journey

A new leadership team has refined objectives. A first-ever chief strategy officer is in place. Precision scheduled railroading is immersed throughout the organization. There have been a lot of changes at CSX since former leader E. Hunter Harrison died in late 2017 and James Foote assumed control of the Class I in early 2018, and more are expected. Positive train control will be fully implemented sometime early next year, well before the federal end-of-2020 deadline.

The railroad is undergoing what the leadership team characterizes as a transformation of the organizational, cultural and digital kinds.

What are the main components of the transformation? How will they change CSX for the better? Why is such a metamorphosis necessary? What will it take to be truly transformed? And how long?

For answers, Managing Editor Jeff Stagl talks with Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Kathleen Brandt, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Diana Sorfleet and other high-ranking CSX executives.
