Cover Story: Inside Phoenix’s Valley Metro
Valley Metro, the regional public transit agency that serves the Phoenix metropolitan area, operates a 26.3 mile light rail route between Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa. In March, the agency opened a light-rail expansion and has four additional extensions in the design or pre-construction stages slated for opening in 2018 through 2030. In our June cover story, Senior Associate Editor Julie Sneider examines the extension project details, as well as what’s behind the demand for light-rail service in the region.
C&S: PTC Implementation Update
Late last year, Congress extended the federal deadline for railroads to implement positive train control (PTC) from 2015’s end to 2018’s end, or to 2020’s end under certain circumstances. So now, Class Is and commuter railroads are focusing on getting their respective PTC systems in place at a reasonable pace instead of trying to determine the penalties and contingencies for not completing implementation as originally mandated. And how is it going on the implementation front thus far in 2016? We’ll check in with several railroads to find out.
Mechanical: Streetcar Vehicle Designs
A range of North American cities are building streetcar systems or considering them, and streetcar builders continue to monitor that interest. This month, streetcar manufacturers talk design trends and share information on recent orders from U.S. transit agencies.
MOW Product/Service Roundup: Ballast Management
A cross-section of suppliers provides information on their ballast-related products and equipment.
Special Advertising Section: Top Execs on The Marketplace
Tell the 25,000 Progressive Railroading subscribers what’s new with your company in the Top Executive on the Marketplace special advertising section. Published in the June issue of Progressive Railroading, this special advertising section lets rail supply leaders talk about new product development, strategic partnerships and custom service, and how these reflect their company’s vision and values.
